DAF TRUCKS has now officially announced its joint development of a new cab with Spanish manufacturer Enasa.
As reported in previous issues of CM, Daf and Enasa will develop and design a new cab for heavy and medium weight lorries at a cost of £16.5m to each company.
Development and testing will take place in the Netherlands by a team of engineers from both companies. Component manufacture will be split between the two partners.
The cab is likely to be ready by the late eighties and is at the moment the only agreement the two partners have together.
Daf is also keen to point out that it is not seeking a Japanese take-over or partnership.
Commenting on a report compiled by Professor Bhaskar on the state of the European motor industry (CM, April 14), a spokesman told CM: "We react in the strongest possible fashion and ask if Professor Bhaskar has taken note of Oaf's developments over the last few years."
Prof Bhaskar told CM that he had researched the subject carefully and had spoken to officials at Daf, although he declined to name them.
