MANY home and office alarm systems were on display at this year's IFSSEC, but the one that caught my eye operated without wires or radio interference.
The heart of the system is a miniature radio transceiver which plugs into a standard wall electricity socket in each room or zone to be protected. It picks up a radio alert signal from any standard detector unit (infra-red, smoke detector or personal "panic button") and transmits it to the central control box along the existing mains cable.
In addition, the pulses can be directed to a "multi-plex" receiver so that the exact posiiton of the alarm call can be pinpointed.
One obvious benefit of this is for guards patrolling a depot or warehouse. When problems occur, a guard can press his individual "panic button" which illuminates a light on the console, indicating his position.

ASSA (LW) was offering three new security locking systems at the exhibition which owed their strength to the company's twin cylinder design.
In addition to the normal pin tumbler mechanism, the Assa Twin provides a second and patented mechanism with special side pins and a coded .side bar. The company claims that the dual arrangement makes it impossible for the lock to be picked or broken into.
It has anti-drill components TWO companies were offering cash boxes with a difference. The first gives off an alarm when the box is moved and continues to sound while the box is in motion. The second offers high impact, heat resistant and flameretardant reinforced polyester and allows the box to be carried around without the contents of the box being mixed or jolted about.
The alarm box is manufactured by Products Innovation of London and is aimed at combatting theft of personal property and cash.
When the box is in motion the alarm will sound for over two hours. If the box is put down, it automatically resets itself.
The casing material is SMC/g lass-reinforced thermo stating resin and the lock is an eight disc/2000 differ Lowe and Fletcher. Price 07.50 including unconditional 12-month guarantee.
The second cash box is manufactured by Churchill Lock and Safe and costs around £17.25. It is marketed as having almost indestructible toughness but at a price little more than a conventional cash box.
