AS PART of its campaign to keep out lorries, the Greater London Council is giving British Rail £115,000 to help to develop and build three prototype refrigerated rail wagons for fresh and frozen foods. This sounds the death knell of the butcher's shop, Bejam and other frozen-food specialists.
In future, housewives will have to shop for meat and frozen foods in railway sidings — a logical development of car-boot sales. It is all part of a grand design to make London a place fit for heroes to starve in.
