read recently in the Sunday :xpress that Britain could :reale another 800,000 jobs, f only the Government Nasn't so hell bent on 3ashing the small 3usinessmen.

In CM, March 10 you reported that Nationwide Transport, part of the C. H. Bailey Group, had stopped operating 65 vehicles and 180 trailers. NT's chairman, Mr Bishop, commented: "Quite simply we have found that there are too many regulations in this country".

In CM, March 24 you reported that another company had decided to end its transport activities because of the increasing burden of legislation — Interpatch of Downham Market, Norfolk.

These three reports prompted me to review the rules and regulations governing transport. Many, I agree, are very necessary. There are well over 20.

Up to 1973 we operated eight lorries; we now employ only five drivers. Having been in the family business since 1936, it would be difficult to give it all up. However, being nearly 58 years old, I must say that I am often very tempted, as there must be easier ways of losing money.
