Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DARLINGTON-based coach operator Scott's Greys has failed in a bid to lengthen oneday tours and keep abreast of the EEC's eight-hour day.

The company applied to the Traffic Commissioners for permission to extend longer tours to run for two days. Otherwise, says the company, drivers will break the regulations.

Bee-Line Roadways and National Travel (East) opposed the application, saying that there was no evidence of demand for two day tours.

Scott's Greys director Reginald Hunter denied that the company had any intention of breaking into a new market.

There was a demand for travel to distant destinations, and in future, these could be reached only on two-day trips. The company was prepared to find accommodation for passengers on such excursions.

Commissioners' chairman Bertram Foster refused the application, saying there was no case for the proposals, but granted a renewal of the licence as it stood.

Mr Hunter said after the -hearing that he was considering an appeal, but would consider double-manning. That would increase the cost to passengers.
