FIGURES issued by the Department of Industry and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show changes in the levels of commercial vehicle production.
The DoI figures show that 41,100 commercials were built in the five weeks to April 1, this being adjusted seasonally to produce an average of 35,800.
The first quarter of 1978 saw the completion of five per cent more commercial vehicles than in the last quarter of 1977.
SMMT's figures reveal that around 6,000 vehicles were built in the first eight weeks of this year compared to the same period last year. This year's total of 61,771, 1977's being 67,532.
British Leyland and Vauxhall recorded especially large rises in weekly average production. Leyland from 2,684 to 3,111 and Vauxhall from 2,022 to 2,454.
Ford's average dropped sharply from 3,127 to 1,544. Smaller manufacturE showing healthy increa5 were Seddon Atkinson ( from 74 to 116) and Hest Dennis (up from 11 to 22).
