A HAMPSHIRE baker has had his Operator's Licence revoked in spite of an appeal to the Transport Tribunal in London last week.

Jose and Sons (N.M.) Ltd, of New Milton, had been described at an inquiry in Southampton as having "irredeemably incompetent management" which had to be restructured if it should be allowed to continue to hold an 0 licence.

Counsel for Jose, David Mole, told the tribunal that this was an unjustified point. He said that it followed from the judgment that if the chief executive of ICI were ignorant of transport matters, then ICI should hold no 0 licence.

Death

He added that the events which provoked the inquiry — serious defects on most of the 19 vans used for deliveries — had occurred around the period of Mr Jose senior's death. He had been responsible for transport, but had suffered failing health for some time.

Since the inquiry, a transport manager had been appointed, there were two fitters (one fully skilled), and three new vehicles had been bought.

The tribunal turned down the appeal and reimposed the revocation with effect from May 13. Full reasons for the decision were to be given in writing at a later date.
