A Blackburn (Lancs) farmer and his 'e whose two vehicles were found to be in "shocking" mechanical condition were icribed as being "quite irresponsible .....ratorsby the North Western LA, Mr R. Hodgson, when he decided to revoke ir operators' licence under Section 69 in inchester last week.
The court heard that as the farmer was a ikrupt the licence had been taken out in name of his wife. Mrs M. A. eenwood. However, neither of the two mded the inquiry.
The LA was told that an investigation o the couple's vehicle maintenance angements were made after one of the ) lorries. a Bedford flat, was examined at oadside spotcheck and found to have 12 ects. As the majority of these defects re of a serious nature, an immediate thibition notice was issued.
The investigation which followed revealed t to reach the farm it was necessary to vel alone a track "which was more like a n. bed than a road" and that vehicles re parked on a piece of quarry waste iund.
kn inspection of the second vehicle ealed that this too had 12 defects which 3 warranted an immediate prohibition notice. No records relating to maintenance inspections were kept, and although Mr Greenwood claimed that a local garage inspected and maintained the vehicles he could not give its name or address.
After hearing the evidence the LA said it was a shocking case and announced he would revoke the licence immediately.
