Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A bus designed especially for link services, between densely populated areas or between town centres and distant residential areas, is introduced this week by Seddon Motors Ltd. The new bus, called the Interurban, is available in 10, 11 or 12-metre lengths. It qualifies for the 50 per cent Exchequer grant which operators of stage services can claim for new buses.

An 11-metre model will be shown at the Brighton coach rally this Saturday and Sunday.

The weight of an 11-metre Interurban on a Seddon Pennine-6 turbo-charged diesel-engined chassis is 6 tons 14+cwt.

The windows are longer than with the ordinary Seddon Pennine service-bus body but below the waist rail, however, the same number of pillars are in the structure. The same basic construction is used, in which the aluminium-alloy bodywork has a welded framework with inner and outer all-over stress panels riveted to it. The front entrance is 2ft 1 lin. wide.

Close attention has been paid to minimizing corrosion as much as possible and this is helped by the aluminium-alloy construction with large mouldings of reinforced plastics including the entrance, front and rear ends and lower skirt panels.

The vehicle has luxury seating, extra noise-insulation and a lower aero

dynamic drag to give better econon on fast intercity routes. To reduce noi intrusion when the engine is revving hat the whole front floor area, including t steps, is deadened with thick plastic foam.

The ceiling trim is normally in Amt matching the seats, but there is the option a glossy melamine laminate. This is al used for the interior side panels a window-surround inserts and the floor covered with coloured linoleum.

Front and rear roof-domes have rat curvature and reduce the effective fron area although still leaving room I destination indicators. A double-curvatt wrap-round two-piece windscreen is used.

At the back of the Interurban bus h 110 cu ft luggage locker while full-leru parcel racks, trimmed with fluted bla Ambla, run down each side of the t saloon.

The standard heating arrangemt includes one fresh-air heater and recirculating heater, in addition to demister unit at the front. The saloon illuminated with Ii uorescent lighting.
