• Tuesday this week saw the arrival of the first Belgian MOL truck in this country. The vehicle, a 6 x 6 rigid, is designed for on /off road work and will join British Gypsum's existing fleet of three drilling rigs. The new rig will be used to carry out test boring for mineral deposits, principally gypsum, anywhere in the UK.

The MOL company was formed in 1952 and has made vehicles under its own name since 1966. The company builds about 200 vehicles a year of all types, using a wide selection of proprietary parts. Engines are mainly Magirus Deutz but also Cummins and GM are used. Gearboxes used are Spicer. Fuller, Timken and ZF. Axles are Timken and Clark.

The truck seen in the UK is fitted with a Magirus Deutz air-cooled 170 hp V8 engine, a Spicer five-speed transmission, a Timken transfer box and Timken double-reduction axles. Gvw is 26 tons. The cab, designed and built by MOL, is of steel with a glass-fibre roof.

The MOL company has only 600 employees and prides itself on being able to offer 60 to 90 days delivery of all trucks.
