THE Minister of Labour and National Service has now given effect to the proposals of the Road Haulage Central Wages Board for increases in the wages of road-haulage workers and the amendment of certain provisions of

R.H. (14) . The Order is set out in R.H. (16), which becomes effective as from April 24. Particulars of the wages increases and the alteration in conditions were given in "The Commercial Motor" dated February 25 last. They may briefly be enumerated as follow :— A general increase of 25. 6d, per week for all haulage workers of 18 years and over, and an increase of 2s. per week for haulage workers who are under 18 years of age.

. A milk worker is to be paid at the rate of time-and-a-quarter for the first six hours worked on Sunday. For the rest of that day, it the normal day of rest falls on any day other than Sunday, he receives time-and-a-half, but if his normal day of rest falls on a Sunday, double time.

All overtime rates are varied so that workers receive time-and-a-quarter where they now receive time-and-aneighth, and time-and-a-half where they now receive time-and-a-quarter.

A new issue of "The Commercial Motor" Wages Scales for Road Transport Employees, giving actual wages due to drivers of all types of vehicle and in all grades up to 70 hours per week and including Sunday rates, will shortly be issued at the price of 1s, 6d.
