in north-east Lincolnshire is being hailed as a success after 26 new drivers entered the industry.
The local Employment Development Services' project gives local unemployed people mentared training for the LOW licence, with guaranteed employment at the end. Two local employers, Uniloads and Driver Hire, provided work experience.
Steve Williams, regional director of the RHA's Eastern region, welcomes the scheme: "It's goad to see a council doing something positive. The situation is becoming more and more desperate."
It has funding from the Single Regeneration Budget to carry an for another year, and proposes to train 50 drivers to LGY1 and another 35 people to LC112.
