there could be a quick and easy defence to charges of speeding: simply tell the court that you
can't remember who was driving at the time. There is, of course, a small matter of the tacho chart, so perhaps this is not the best solution for truckers. But this defence worked for none other than Cleveland Police's most senior detective, Detective Superintendent Adrian Roberts. In a recent legal challenge against a60 fine he claimed he could not remember who was driving his car after it was caught on camera exceeding a 30mph limit and, at the photograph proved inconclusive, the prosecution was dropped.
However, after complaints Cleveland Police have since reviewed the ticket. Did we mention that Roberts is the same detective who oversaw the introduction of speed cameras while working for the traffic division?
