30 August issue I was somewhat surprised to read in the first paragraph Jane Smiles talking about a "cunning bonus scheme to try to get that extra load out of our tipper lorries".

I can only presume this involves offering the drivers a financial incentive to do more loads and hope that this is not compromising road safety contrary to EC 3820/85 article 10. I am sure Mrs Smiles will wish to enlighten us, and hope the word "cunning" does not refer to this issue. I do not wish to hear of a driver berg prosecuted for going that little bit faster than necessary in order to try to get that extra cash so that he coulc take his wife for a meal on Saturday night instead of another night in front of the tell: Julian Dockery,
