Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• by Kevin Swallow Scania has strengthened its bonneted tractive unit line-up by raising the cab and installing its range of new V8 engines.

The Euro-3 T164 is powered by the 16litre Vee rated at either 480hp or the range-topping 580hp. It is available from this month in the UK as a 4x2, 6x2 or 6x4.

The 16-litre engine, launched last year, replaced the 14-litre V8 range.

The T164 cab is 70mrn higher than the T114 and T124 to make room for the 16-litre V8 powerhouse. The driver gets to look out over 1.3m of bonnet.

Operators have the choice of the T day cab with a normal passenger seat or twoseat passenger bench, or the T sleeper cab with one or two bunks.

Also available is a high-roof Tophne version with an additional 500mm of internal height for the driver. This has a frontmounted top bunk. Scania sees the new 1164 as being a prestige model but, more importantly, it is aimed squarely at the heavy haulage sector.
