• ADT Auctions has announced plans for a major refurbishment and upgrading of its Newmains, Wishaw, site — one of Scotland's foremost commercial vehicle centres.
The improvements will include a new drive-through auction facility for HGVs, with an auction rostrum and customer area, as well as external improvements to the existing buildings to bring them into line with other ADT centres.
The alterations will be implemented throughout the rest of the year and represent a major investment by ADT.
The company intends to boost its business from the Newtnains site, one of three ADT centres in Scotland, and sees the improved facilities as being a major draw for its customers throughout Scotland and the north of England.
The new drive-through commercial auction hall will be of the type pioneered by ADT at its other specialist commercial auction centres, and has proved successful for the sale of HGVs.
The facilities for light commercial vehicles and cars are also to be upgraded, with improvements to the undercover general auction hall.
Other improvements include the installation of heavy duty loading ramps which will ease the delivery of vehicles, plant and equipment entered for auction, and to help buyers when they are arranging the transportation of their purchases after a sale.
Douglas Grant, general manager of ADT Newmains says: "These improvements will bring Newmains into line with other ADT centres and means we can offer our customers much more pleasant surroundings in which to conduct their business."
Newrnains currently holds light commercial sales every Thursday including heavy commercials on alternate weeks, alongside a regular programme of specialist plant and equipment sales.
ADT Auctions' special onsite sale on behalf of Royal Mail Parcelforce disposed of 95% of the lots on offer and achieved a turnover of more than £400,000.
Held at the Royal Mail Parcelforce Transport Engineering Centre in Corby earlier this month, the sale attracted more than 100 registered buyers. On offer were 80 light commercials, more than 50 HGVs and a similar number of trailers, plus vehicle spares and equipment.
The light commercial section featured a large number of mainly C and D-reg, high-top Sherpa diesel vans — all were sold, with the best price of £1,600 going to a 1987 D-350 LWB high top.
The best price in the HGV section — which included Ford Cargo 2824, 3224 and 23828 28-tonne units and Leyland Cruiser, Roadtrain and Chieftain units — was achieved by a 1987 Ford Cargo 3828 tractor unit, which realised £5,800.
