• Mercedes-Benz will use electronic fuel injection systems on its next generation of heavy trucks, to satisfy emissions regulations. The current range of engines will be capable of meeting proposed emission legislation when fitted with electronic fuel management systems. Mercedes is also to launch an extra 298kW (400hp) power unit to fill the gap between the 261kW (350hp) and 358kW (480hp) vee engines — but it is not due to be launched for "some years". There are "no plans" for a higher version of the existing SK Powerliner cab. despite the presence of higher roof models from Volvo and Scania. The German giant has launched a company offering hire purchase and leasing services to M-B customers and a finance package to M-B dealers. Called Mercedes-Benz Finance, the company will have its headquarters in Milton Keynes. Also at the show, Mercedes confirmed that it has no plans to compete in the compact van sector prior to the launch of its next generation of vans in about 1993.
