The Adwest Vararnatic system will be an option on diesel models at i'510. Veeeight petrol models get it as standard from early next year. Some "body in white" changes have been made to create space in the engine bay for the system.
The other mechanical change to the 400 is the adoption of overslung rear leaf springs on conventionally sprung models. Leyland Daf claims it gives a more constant spring rate between laden and unladen conditions and the near elimination of rear-wheel steering.
