/AVID MACKRILL of LPG Truck 'ower Ltd is quoted (CM August 0) as saying that the Governnent is disturbed about inreasing usage of lpg by the priate motorist and has legislation vaiting to increase the tax on ag overnight.
The fact is that potential fleet ivestors have been reassured bout the stability of the tax. Anwering a Parliamentary queson from Mr Robert McCrindle AP on April 16, 1980, about the 3xation of lpg, Mr Peter Rees, ilinister of State at the Treasury aid: My Rt Hon and Learned Friend as continued in the Budget the iractice of dutying lpg for use as road fuel at half the rate apilied to petrol. I have reviewed le arguments for encouraging ne use of lpg as a road fuel and I aye decided that we shall not eek, during the lifetime of this dministration, to change this elationship, unless the growth a automotive use of lpg should lecome such as seriously to unlermine the revenue from other oad fuels.
"In any event, we shall not eek to change the relationship a such a way as to discriminate igainst lpg, after taking into acount relative calorific values Ind engine efficiency."
