Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ERF's B gets light

ERF has reduced the unladen weight of its standard 'B' Series 4x2 tractor by half a ton.

The frame employing a slimmer structure of a modern high stress steel gives a reduction of 45kg (100 lb). A lighter rear axle matching a lower gtw of 36 tonnes gives a saving of 113kg (249 lb).

Taper leaf springs with antiroll bar on the rear are said to improve cornering stability, with the benefit of a weight reduction of 23kg (50 lb).

A new, all-aluminium fuel tank saves a similar amount while a pressed radiator with an integral de-aerating top tank saves 27kg (60 lb).

The brake system has been revised and now includes a multi-circuit protection valve which reduces the air reservoir capacity requirement with a saving of 27kg (60 lb).

Weight economies have also been gained by the replacement of the twin 304mm (12in) diameter air cleaners for a single 216mm (8.5in) diameter cleaner, and further reductions were made with the replacement of the ZF8065 steering gear in preference to the ZF8043, saving about 20kg (46 lb).
