EIGHT Volvo B58 12m midengine coach chassis have been ordered by the Scottish Bus Group for its GlasgowLondon express service. The vehicles will be fitted with Alexander M-type express bodies and will be operated by Western SMT.
The Volvos replace 11m Leyland Leopard chassis ordered in the 1974 vehicle programme. SBG is known to have wanted more Bristol REMH chassis for the service but had to take 1.1 m Leopards when these were not available in sufficient quantities.
The Volvos will be to standard specification with five-speed synchromesh gear boxes and leaf suspension. Some should be delivered before the end of the year.
