A LUTON-head aluminium-alloy van body has been designed by Coachwork Conversions Ltd for the Leyland light van range announced last week. The body provides 11.48 cam (410 cuft) load space compared with the 5.32cum (210 cu ft) of the standard Leyland van. The unladen weight stays within 1.5 tons.
The body is built around a framework mainly of aluminium-alloy extrusions, Riveted to the 4in deep vertical flange of the 1section side rails are top-hat section pillars, 3in wide and 11/4in deep. At the top the pillars marry with a specially shaped cant rail each side, carrying the roof. Flat alloy panelling with butt joints over double-sided sealing strips, covers the walls.
A 13mm one-piece plywood floor is laid over the 2in deep alloy Channel cross-bearers, 2ft apart. Several different rear-door arrangements are available, including full-width roller shutter, double hinged doors, centre door or horizontal split designs with or without a tailboard. Doors, including roller shutters, close below floor level so that water is not blown under the bottom, edge.
The price of the Luton body, inclusive of delivery, is £560.
