OWNER-DRIVERS who are not members of the Transport and General Workers' Union may find themselves banned by union officials from collecting or delivering at customers' premises where there is strong union membership.. The GGWU is trying to recruit owner-drivers, and in the meantime, union officials in the North of England are reported to have been refusing to accept RI-IA membership as a substitute for union membership by owner-drivers. The union, together with the National Union of Mineworkers, is negotiating an agreement to ban non-union members from collection or delivery at pitheads or other places connected with coal mining.
