Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• This week the Dunlop Co. Ltd. announces its first big-single low-profile tyre for commercial vehicles. It is the Highway 70 wide-single in tubeless cross-ply construction, using the tread pattern already familiar on the Highway 70 truck range.

As an alternative fitting to twinned tyres, the wide single is lighter, says Dunlop, has greater flotation for mobility on poor surfaces, less vibration, lower rolling resistance and cooler running, and avoids the hazard of trapped bricks and stones.

The first size available is 18-19.5, 18-ply, which will have approximately the same carrying capacity as twin tyres of 10.00-20 14-ply rating. The rim width is 14in., the overall diameter 42.27in., section width radius I8.19in. and revs per mile 509. The recommended inflation pressure is 90lb /sq.in. and maximum load rating 10,0801b.

Recommended user price is £80 15s. way and on/off highway versions.

Among the exhibits (see page 206) is a heavy-service radial-ply tyre, the Uniroyal Max which, like several of the cross-ply nylon covers, has an inextensible steel belt under the tread.
