Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Appleyard Coachbuilders Ltd., North Street, Leeds 7.

THE interior equipment of the Appleyard Statesman ambulance body is well worth detail examination on this stand. Special features are an Appleyard/Ferno-Washington, Model 28, Fernoflex chair cot on the nearside and a Model 409M trolley seat on the offside, both units being adaptable for employment as seats. This ambulance has been built to the requirements of the West Bromwich Ambulance Service and is carried on a BMC LD5 chassis. Composite construction is used, the bodywork being carried on steel outrigger brackets in order to achieve a lower floor line and centre of gravity.

DENNIS Stand 70

Dennis Brothers Ltd., Woodbridge Works, Guildford, Surrey.

A CONSIDERABLE amount of study preceded the introduction of the Dennis front-wheel-drive ambulance which has been designed to meet the recommendations of the Working Party on Ambulance Training and Equipment. The interior gives a 6ft. headroom with the floor no more than 20in. above ground level. The overall length is 18ft and the width 6ft 7in. Inside the saloon is free from floor traps and measures 9ft 9in. long, 6ft 2in. wide and 6ft high. Suspension is independent all round and the frequency has been designed to give a floating action. There is a one-piece glass-reinforced plastics bonnet which incorporates the front wings and is front-hinged to give easy access to the engine compartment.

The six-cylinder petrol engine is carried on a 10ft-wheelbase chassis. A fully automatic Borg-Warner Type 35 transmission unit is employed, there being a chain and short drive shaft to carry the propulsion to the front axle. In order to give skid resistance a pressure-limiting valve is placed in the rear hydraulic brake line. A sliding door in the front bulkhead provides communication between saloon and driving compartment. At the rear a single door encloses a three-step unit that fits flush with the main bodywork when shut. The fuel tank gives a working range of more than 200 miles.
