York Trailer Co. Ltd., St. Mark's Road, Corby, Northants

A VEHICLE completely new to the York range of products is seen on this stand. It comprises two single-axle skeletals, each 20ft-long and capable of being joined one to the other to form a 40ft-long unit. This model is called the Two Twenty and will carry up to 27.5 tons of payload when its two halves are locked together with two 20ft-long containers. The model is designed to operate with any suitable tractive unit within the I5-metre overall length.

The suspension assembly on the leading section of the trailer is designed to slide along the main beams of it and the rear section, where it can be located at either the regular spacing of 52.5in. or in widespread form where the spacing between the two axles is 80in.

Other trailers shown include a Freightmaster and a single-axle Teamster. The Freightmaster is equipped with a special body which has been designed to act as a mobile warehouse. It has a second deck', capable of carrying half the gross payload of the unit and is equipped with a 10-ton capacity hydraulic tail lift. The second deck can be folded away when not in use when it lies flush with the lining of the body. Cargo control gear is fitted to secure stillages and pallets while in transit.

This unit is 33ft-long and plated for 32-ton g.v.w. It is mounted on York Series 111 TA tandem running gear with 22,500lb axles.

The Teamster, an SL 16 model, is aimed at a section of the industry which is not affected by the "quantity licensing" proposals of the Transport Bill. it is plated for I3-ton gross trailer weight and designed for operation at 16-ton g.v.w. It features the York castellated main frame and is mounted on York Harco single-axle running gear.

Also shown on this stand is a bulk-liquid ISO container called the Tanktainer, and a 20ft aluminium ISO dry-freight container.

Other exhibits by the company can be seen in the demonstration park and these include the Dock Walloper, a small city delivery trailer based on a 2C/ft-long container, and the York/Heil tanker. Under a licensing agreement, made between York and the Heil company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, which was announced at the opening of the exhibition, York will manufacture and market tanks of Heildesign in the UK. The unit being shown is a 5,420gal unit of one compartment, constructed from stainless steel for generalpurpose operations. It is mounted on a York TA widespread-running gear and plated for operation at 32-tons g.v.w., and it is claimed to weigh only 5 tons 1 cwt unladen. The Heil tank is of the circular external ring type which has proved very successful in the United States. It will sell in the UK for £4,140.

On other stands in the show, Nos. 221 and 327, York is showing trailer components, fifth-wheel couplings and third-axle conversions.
