Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Multiwheelers (Commercial Vehicles) Ltd., Multiwhealer Works, The Airport, Southampton, I-/ants

THIS special vehicles division of Highway Trailers shows a 32-ton g.v.w. roundtimber carrier which features an inverted fifth-wheel coupling said to offer fleet interchangeability while still retaining the necessary stability when operating under off-road conditions. It has a centre pole 8in. in diameter and a sliding rear bogie located in a number of different positions to suit payload and axle-loading requirements. Two bolsters, one mounted over the fifth-wheel coupling and the other over the bogie centre line are fitted with high-tensile steel stanchions.

Highway/Eidal tandem-axle suspension is used and this comprises trunnion springing utilizing two 13-leaf flat springs 5in. in width centrally mounted in steel bushes running on a centre trunnion axle. Spring ends fit into rubber blocks contained in steel casings secured to the tops of the axles by U-bolts.

The suspension unit gives maximum ground clearance beneath the axles and maximum articulation of the bogie with a rise and fall of up to 12 in. for each axle. The trailer is mounted on 14.00-20, 18-ply tyre equipment and 16.5in. by 7in. brakes.

One of the few draw-bar trailers to be seen at Earls Court is shown on this Stand and this is a flat platform 30ft long and has an overall height of only 3ft 7in. It is a three-axle unit having a single front axle and a tandem rear bogie; the front axle is steering and carried on a ball-bearing turntable forecarriage. A Mt long draw bar with a 1.75in. towing eye is fitted and standard Rubery Owen tandem suspension is used at the rear end. The low deck height is achieved by using 8.26-15 Michelin X tyres and the deck is of 1.5in. thick soft wood laid longitudinally with its top surface flush with the main frame. This vehicle is due for service with George Wimpey and Co. Ltd.
