Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Rootes Motors Ltd.

(Dodge Division), Luton, Beds.

THE main exhibit on the Dodge stand is the new KP1000 28 tons tractive unit fitted with Perkins V8 510, 185 bhp SAE gross diesel engine. Accompanying it on the stand are four other Dodge models, a 13-ton-gross tipper, two 16-ton four-wheelers and a 22-ton-gross six-wheeler.

The Dodge KP1000 is an improved version of the 28-ton tractive unit first exhibited at the last Scottish Motor Show. Production is scheduled to commence next January and the sole engine available is the Perkins V8. A new-design braking system used on the KP1000 is a full-air cam-actuated three-line system with the service brake operated through a split circuit—separate for the tractive unit brakes and the trailer brakes—while the secondary brake operates on the tractive unit front axle and on the trailer.

The system adopted for the KP1000 has been adapted for use on the other tractive units in the 500 Series and there are double-diaphragm lock-type actuators fitted all round. While only the fronts are pressurized for the secondary system in conjunction with the "auxiliary" line to the trailer, all four actuators are powered and the locks brought into action by selection of the "park" position on the secondary /park control.

The Perkins engine in the KP1000 drives through a five-speed all-synchromesh gearbox to a two-speed rear axle.

Two other Dodge maximum-gross four-wheelers on the stand are K1050 16-ton-gross models. A 13ft 8in, wheelbase chassis cab has a Perkins 6.354 diesel and power steering while a 10ft 8in. wheelbase tipper with Edbro gear and 9 cu.yd. body (limited to 15 tons because of the wheelbase dimension) has a Cummins V8 with the 170 bhp rating.

The smallest Dodge is a K850 13-ton-gross tipper with the same 10ft 8in. wheelbase as the heavier machine and a Telehoist 7 cu.yd. body with single-front-end ram. This exhibit has the Perkins 6.354 engine and like the 16-ton-gross K1050 full air brakes and power steering.

The KT900 which completes the Dodge exhibits is for 22 tons gross and this is a special display chassis with a sectioned engine and cab. The model has the Cummins V8 diesel with the higher rating of 185 bhp.
