Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Rootes Motors Ltd., (Commer /Karrier Division), Luton, Beds.

ALTHOUGH listed as the joint Commer and Karrier stand, only one of the eight vehicles exhibited bears the Karrier name. This is a 9.46-ton-gross goods chassis with low platform height, the Commer models ranging from an Imp van to the concern's 18-ton-gross tractive unit.

There have been no recent changes to the Commer model range so that the vehicles have all been seen before. The Imp van has a nominal payload capacity of 5cwt in its 50 cu.ft. body and the exhibit is sectioned. The rear engine is an all -aluminium unit with an output of 37 bhp and the drive is through a four-speed synchromesh gearbox. Suspension is independent all round and rack and pinion steering is employed.

Two other vans on the stand, a PB 1500 with 200 cult. body with a gross weight of 2.05 tons. This model is designed for a payload of around 15cwt. A 62bhp petrol engine is used and the exhibit is the sliding-door version. The third van is a Commer Walk-Thru with 350 cu.ft. body and Perkins 4.203 63 bhp diesel engine. Gross weight limit of this particular model is 4.9 tons which allows a payload of about 2.5 tons.

Next in weight-carrying capacity is the Karrier four-wheeler with a gross weight limit of 9.46 tons. This 13ft 6in. wheelbase chassis has a Perkins 4.236, 80 bhp diesel engine and the use of 17in. wheel-8.25-17 radial tyres—allows a conveniently-low platform height.

Perkins 6.354, 120 bhp diesels are fitted in the two mediumweight Commers on the stand which are a 10.7-ton-gross tipper with factory-built 6 cu.yd. tipping body and Edbro gear and a 13-ton-gross four-wheeler with 13ft 6in. wheelbase which is shown as a chassis cab.

Completing the Commer display there are two Maxiload models. Both have the Rootes 135 bhp three-cylinder two-stroke diesel and one is a 16-ton-gross four-wheeler with a wheelbase of 12ft 10in, The second is the 18-ton tractive unit model with wheelbase of 7ft 10in.
