Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Daimler Transport Vehicles Ltd., Coventry, Warwicks.

THREE of the five exhibits on the Daimler stand have bodies and one of these, a complete newcomer to Earls Court, is the CR-36 low-height double-decker. The body on this chassis is by Northern Counties and it can accommodate 93 passengers (85 seated). The CR-36 takes a vee engine--the one in the Show has a Cummins V6-200---and so that there can be a rear staircase and platform, the engine is offset 13.1in. to the offside. This is illustrated in the Northern Counties body which has a rear staircase and the engine drives forward to the dropped-centre rear axle through a small reversing extension to the axle gearing.

Except for the radiator being located at the front end, the CR-36 is the same from the rear axle forward as the Fleetline. Three of the other four exhibits on the stand are this model. One of them is a 361t -long chassis and it will be seen that the rear overhang has had to be extended to accommodate this overall length and reinforced to support the weight of the Gardner 6LX engine at the extreme end of the chassis.

One of the bodied Fleetlines is a 36ft-long single-decker with 45-seat bodywork by Alexander having front entrance and central exit. Another is a 331t Fleetline double-decker with Roc body.

All the chassis have the latest Daimatic gearbox which has been uprated to 600 lb.ft. torque capacity following increases in drum diameter and band width which raise the band area by 30 per cent. Air-pressure setting for band clamping has been increased from 80 to 90 psi. and the pistons have been provided with greater travel for increased toggle action. There have also been changes to the piston seal material and a 12-plate top-gear clutch is now employed as well as a stronger casing and output shaft.

Also new to Earls Court is the latest version of the Daimler Roadliner—the type SRP8—which was announced recently. This is shown as a chassis and is powered by a Perkins V8.5.10 diesel engine in the same position at the rear end of the chassis as the original Curnmins V6-200 unit. This model is now available with the choice of leaf-spring air and rubber suspension, the last being the type fitted on the exhibit. As well as the Perkins and Cummins engines, the AEC 800 Series V8 can be fitted in the Roadliner.

On the demonstration park Daimler will have a similar Roadliner with Plaxton 53-seat body and a 33ft Fleetline single-decker with Willowbrook body.
