do Glas Concessionaires (GB) Ltd., Alexandre Dock, Kings Lynn, Norfolk, IN May this year Commercial Motor reported that Glas Concessionaires was setting up a company called MAT Automobiles Ltd. to handle Bussing sales and service in the UK. This is the first chance that the public has had to see the models that will be offered and on the stand there are a luxury coach and two goods models.
The coach is a Prafekt which has a 0 11 D six-cylinder diesel engine located horizontally at the rear end of the chassis. This power unit has a maximum net output of 210 bhp (DIN) at 2,100 rpm and maximum torque of 579 lb.ft. at 1,300 r.p.m. The drive is transmitted through a ZF gearbox. The Prafekt is a semi-integral design and air suspension is employed with braking by an air-assisted hydraulic system.
One of the two goods chassis has a vertical version of Prafekt engine at the front end of the chassis. It is a tractive unit, the model number in this case being BS 19 S, and is a forward-control chassis with flat-front cab. Wheelbase is 3m (9ft 10in.) and as well as a special brake system and 10.00-20 tyres for the UK, an Eaton 10-ton two-speed driving axle is fitted. The engine drives through a ZF six-speed constant-mesh gearbox. The full-air brakes are modified to give the necessary secondary system and spring brakes on the driving axle provide for parking. The BS 19 S is designed for operation at a maximum gross weight of 38 tons.
The cab on the tractive unit has a high standard of interior finish and fitting and the same can be said for the third exhibit on the BUssing stand, a BS 15 L. But this is a 16-ton-gross four-wheeler powered by a diesel engine located horizontally to the rear of the cab. The U 7 D engine is employed and this has an output of 155 bhp net (DIN) at 2,400 rpm with a maximum torque of 354 lb.ft. at 1,400 rpm.
