Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Ryder Truck Rental is to buy 800 new trucks, ranging from 3.5-tonne vans to 38tonne tractor units, from Iveco Ford, Mercedes, Leyland Daf and Scania.

The order, worth over 216 million, is 75% higher than the same requirement last year, and has been shared out evenly between the four truck manufacturers. "We are concerned not to favour one manufacturer over another," says the company. "They all get a roughly even slice of the cake."

"The magnitude of this order reflects the growth in demand for Ryder's services, especially in its contract hire and rental areas," says Tom Lysaght, company secretary and former purchasing director of the truck rental division. "Business has increased by 40% a year for the last two years and we see no reason for that to change." .Ryder replaces a fifth of its 7,000-strong UK fleet every year. "Ryder enjoys a reputation for quality, and we maintain this through fleet renewal. We replace vehicles long before they reach the end of their useful life," says Lysaght. "This purchase reflects Ryder's overall philosophy of working with manufacturers to enable us to buy competitively priced vehicles with the specification our customers expect."

The Iveco Fords' on order are Cargo 1718s, 1721s and 1728s fitted with the new Cummins derivative 6BTA and 6CT engines. The Mercedes order features 216, 261 and 358kW Powerliners.
