I AM an owner-driver running a Mercedes 1617 rigid. In April of this year I suffered a mild heart attack and have been off the road since I have been employing a driver but I find that the vehicle is only paying for running costs plus wages leaving nothing for me. I have been told by my doctor that I have to surrender my hgv although I have made a good recovery and have had no recurrence of symptoms.
I should like some advice on the following points: 1, Can I appeal to have my hgv re-instated after a period of time, and if so, what is the period and condition?
2, If I were to acquire a non hgv vehicle (7.5 tons gross) which is plated for a gross train weight of 16.260kg, can I use it with a drawbar trailer at a gross train weight of 16.260kg and still drive it on a car licence?
I have been a regular reader of CM for several years and find it very interesting and good value for money.
