IRELAND's semi-state transport company, Cores lompair Eireann, is to be divided into three subsidiary companies, one for Dublin city services, one for provincial bus services and the other for railways.
The plan, contained in a major Government report published earlier this week, goes against the 1980 McKinsey Report's proposal for totally separate companies.
The long-expected Dublin Transport Authority, to oversee road and public transport investment in the Republic's capital, is also to be created.
It is expected that bus and coach services will be expanded once road service licensing is reviewed, and this could possibly be at the expense of rail services which will not be subject to major investment, according to the Government plan.
