THE LATEST horror stories about inferior replacement parts come from Clayton Dewandre. They concern brake compressors which, when they fail, put a stop to stopping power.
One that had been incorrectly reconditioned collapsed after 15 miles. Another had a loose connecting-rod bolt which caused the rod to shatter the compressor casing. Valve discs that should have been scrapped are sometimes used again and cylinder heads may be badly fitted.
These risks can be avoided by using Clayton Dewandre Red Unit exchange compressors. They cost about half the price of a new product and are warranted for 12 months or 80,000km. They could save a life.
