A RANGE of three Sovietbuilt Kamaz commercial vehicles which have only just arrived into the country are being shown at the Motor Show in Birmingham this week by UMO Plant of Letchworth.

The range consists of a scow-ended dump truck with a gvw of 22.36 tonnes for offhighway work, a chassis cab that will accept general purpose bodies and a tractive unit.

All are powered by a B8 lightweight diesel engine rated at 157kW (210bhp) at 2,600rpm. A five-speed gearbox with a splitter box provides eight forward and two reverse gears. Power steering air brakes, an airoperated diff lock and twin plate air-assisted clutch are also included in the specification. Any parts are common throughout the range.

Kamaz vehicles are produced in the heart of the ,Soviet Union at Naberzhnyje Chelny on the banks of the river Kama. The Kama works consists of seven different plants and has the capacity to produce 150,000 trucks per year.

UMO Plant Ltd is the UK concessionnaire for Soviet civil engineering equipment and is also showing the VAZ 452 a four-wheel drive petrolengined vehicle with a payload of one tonne.
