Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

many eight-wheeled vehicles with eight-wheeled trailers the driver had no mate. Could you explain the UK position with regard to the need to employ a mate?

A Because the vehicles you saw were muIti-axled it does not follow that they

were necessarily heavier than the maximum now permissible in the UK. There is, however, no need to carry a mate on a tractor/trailer outfit when driving in Italy.

But there is a proposal that this outdated requirement will be terminated in the UK because with modem braking systems there is no longer the need for a mate that there was when this requirement was first introduced.

Until then, however, a mate is still required for vehicles hauling drawbar trailers.
