The strike by 330 Unite union :members — out of a total 550 port 3taff — was sparked by the port 3aying it would withdraw from 'an unsustainable monopoly losition as the sole supplier of andside services to the customer 'erry operators". These include 'flooring ships, handling goods and :railers and security activities.
However, the union claims this will lead to the outsourcing of obs and threaten the pensions of heir members.
Dover Harbour Board chief :xecutive Bob Goldfield says: "We have put in place a thorough contingency plan to maintain regular ferry services, which will ensure the port remains open around the clock up to the implementation of the new working arrangements."
