• Isovel Refrigeration is building a solar-powered temperature-controlled unit for one of Heathrow-based Alpha Flight Services' Hi Lift vehicles. The unit uses the same technology as the trailer which has completed a year's trial with Sainsbury's. Roof-mounted photovoltaic cells use CV light and the sun to charge an onboard battery store which powers the refrigeration unit.
Montracon will build the body and if the trial— due to start in January 1998—is successful, more of the 45-strong fleet will be fitted with the units.
• Seven 26-pallet insulated boxvans and five Insuliner curtainsiders are working on a Sainsbury's contract for Spiers & Hartwell. The Montracon trailers are hauled by new 6x2 Scania 4-Series tractive units fitted with aluminium wheels to boost payload.
