THE NATIONAL Freight Consortium's expansion into Australia is a permanent one, according to NFC chairman Peter Thompson.

Speaking at the official opening of a new headquarters and operational facility for the NFC's wholly owned subsidiary, Downard Pickfords, Mr Thompson said: "We are definitely here to stay."

Downard Pickfords is the largest privately owned removals and storage company in Australia and will now have its head office at a seven-acre site at Braeside, Victoria.

It has 100,000sqft of warehousing and there is land available for further development of storage and workshop support facilities.
