THE NEW LEYLAND Royal Tiger Doyen integral coach is, so far as I am aware, the only commercial vehicle to have had a musical work dedicated to it. A march, Doyen, has been composed in its honour by Goff Richards and is played by the Leyland Works Band which was so successful in selling British musical instruments to the Japanese.
A gallop — a kind of Royal Tiger Rag — would have been even more appropriate, for the Doyen must be one of the fastest large vehicles on the road. It costs about as much as a RollsRoyce Corn iche and at 75mph is almost as quiet and as comfortable but offers much more for the money.
