KEIGHLEY-based haulage company James Watkinson has twice transported what it believes is the longest shipment moved by road in Britain to date, journeying from Telford in Shropshire to Conoco's Humberside refinery in South Killingholme at a maximum speed of 19km/h (12 mph).
The two loads, which are support girders for a 15.5 tonne (15 ton) overhead travelling crane, were over 50m (164ft) and each weighed 50.8 tonne (50 ton). Each girder was carried on two Cometto fouraxle trailer units with either one capable of supporting a 100-ton load.
