Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WHAT many visitors will certainly consider the most interesting exhibit will be the Carrimore tractor-bus, with its steering by front and trailer wheels, low loading line and brakes operated both by the Westinghouse system and by independent hand control.

THE combined crankshaft and differential gear of the Super-Sentinel steam wagon will be shown as a working model, which will demonstrate the purpose of the special friction clutch.

SPECIAL facilities are provided for expeditiously renewing the Ferodo liners on both the foot and hand brakes of the new 20-25-cwt. Karrier.

THE new subsidy-type Crossley will easily be distinguished by its curious east aluminium wheels designed for use with pneumatic tyres. STEEL pressings are now employed in constructing the turntable of the Scamme11 tractor-lorry, thus reducing the weight and eliminating many parts.

IN the Bristol a very neat means of adjustment is provided for the hand brake shoes. This consists of cam plates adjusted by sleeve nuts, each of which is provided with a ball locking device.

ON the new Albion chassis for 21-seater buses there is a patented triangular type rear axle which is worthy of close attention. The main member is a drop forging of the horizontal double-banjo type, the triangulation being between the centre and the tubular extensions.

FEATURES of the Saurer chassis are the large and convenient hand wheels provided for facilitating the adjustment of brakes, fan pulley, etc. Note should also be made of the special engine brake.

THE hand brake cable of the 10-cwt. Fiat is kept at the required tension by a neat type of turnbuckle, which is in the centre of the cross-shaft carrying the lever. The adjustment of the foot brake cable isidifferent, but equally ingenious.

OVERHEAD inlet valves, actuated by long pushrods and rockers, are employed on the engine of the Run speed chassis. The rockers bear on the valve stems through the medium of small rollers.

ON the L. V.L. engine the fan pulley and that for the impeller type water pump are situated side by side, both being driven by the same Whittle belt. AN unusual position for the speedometer drive has been found on the 20-25-cwt. Karrier, in which use is made of the worm tailshaft.

ONE of the most interesting power units is that employed on the new 30-cwt. Leyland. This is a commercial development, of the Leyland Eight, with overhead eccentric-driven camshaft and laminated valve springs.

EVERY time we see the Garner bus-van it appears to have been improved, and the exhibit at Olympia is no exception to this rule.

AN unusual type of torque tube anchorage is employed M the Austin Seven chassis. It is supported at its base by a ball-ended pin carried on a crossmember. THE springing of the A-type Straker-Squire embodies many proofs of skilful design, which are exemplified in the ball joints and slippers for the rear springs. The front slippers permit half an inch of lateral movement in each direction, to accommodate the displacement caused by the axle tilting. IN the Berliet 21-ton special passenger chassis there are many points of interest, including brakes on all wheels and the transmission, a starter carried on the gearbox, and an overhead-valve engine. AN engine which starts from cold on paraffin and in which an air-compressing cylinder is cast en bloc with the three power cylinders is to be shown by • Blackstone and Co.

FRONT-WHEEL brakes will be found on certain vehicles such as the Burford, Austin Seven, Unic, • Renault and Berliet.

IT is difficult for many people to realize that the F.W.D. is a four-wheel-braked vehicle, but such is actually the case when the transmission brake is in Operation.

THE patent flexible rear axle which permits the rear rollers to adjust themselves to the road camber, and a locking device for the forecarriage which allows the front rollers to be held rigid horizontally, are features of a Wallis and Steevens road roller. SERVO-OPERATED brakes on all wheels, additional hand-operated brakes on the rear wheels only, and a double reduction axle, are characteristics of the latest Renault coach chassis.

ATKINSON steam wagons are now fitted with a novel type of epicyclic gear giving two gear changes and a free engine. This gear is carried on a continuation of the crankshaft IN certain Halley chassis the transmission brake is unusually situated, the drum being carried on the tailshaft of the final drive worm, so that the cardan joints are relieved from braking stresses.

A FIRE pump fitted on an F.W.D. chassis is only another instance of the enterprise shown in the successful efforts to popularize this chassis that drives on all four wheels. The pump, by the way, is Dennis-Tamini.

WESTINGHOUSE air-pressure operation of brakes will attract much attention to those vehicles on which it will be employed. These include the A.E.C., F.W.D. G.V., and certain Carrosserie Laytmer productions.

A LIGHT load tractor-lorry on six wheels has.been produced by Thornyerofts for overseas work. The movement for six wheels in place of four enables many a 4-ton vehicle to comply with severe axle weight restrictions. THE forward dash will be found this year to have been adopted by more makers in the leading group. BANTAM fire pumps, trailer pumps and similar light-powered (but, for all that; extremely effective) fire-fighting equipment are rapidly acquiring a vogue. There are many appliances at the Shows falling into these categories.
