Last week in our review, of the new products which have emerged from the factories of our 'British commercial vehicle builders sifice the commencement of this year we dealt with 35 complete vehicles and chassis built by 25 different makers. This week we draw attention to certain new light vans and road roller productions. • 2i-cwt. Austin van:—Use is made in this of the Austin Seven chassis, which has proved so popular. Makers :—Austin Motor Car Co., Ltd.
2-cwt. Carden van :—This is a light-weight lowpriced machine with a novel power unit of the two-stroke type carried at the back.
Makers :—Arnott and Harrison, Ltd.
8-cwt. Morris-Cowley van:—This is based on the well-known car chassis, and is marketed at a most attractive price. Makers :—Morris Motors, Ltd.
5-cwt. Rhode van :—This is another development of a successful car chassis.
Makers:—Rhode Motor Co.
4-cwt. Rover van :—This is one of two commercial models using the Rover Eight chassis. It has an air-cooled two-cylindered engine. Makers—Rover Co., Ltd.
5-cwt. Trojan light van:—This is a recent development of the Trojan utility chassis. It has epicyelic gears and solid tyres. 10-cwt. Westcar van :—The chassis of this follows the practices embodieu in the 12 h.p. car of the same make with slight ,modifications. Makers :—Strode Engineering Works.
Armstrong-Whitworth rollers :—These weigh 8 tons, 10 tons and 12 tons respectively, and, whilst resembling the standard type, embody notable features, including a cast steel fork and rollers with dished steel centres. There is also a new tandem model. Makers :—Sir W. G. Armstrong-Whitworth and Co., Ltd.
Fowler petrol rollers :—These weigh 4-6 tons, 8-10 tons, 12-14 tons. The main feature is the supporting of the fork in a volute spring and ball bearing. Final drive is by spur gears. Makers :--John Fowler and Co. (Leeds), Ltd.
2-iton Union electric truck :—Shown for the first time at the Royal, this industrial truck received much favourable comment for its strength of construction.
Makers:—Joseph Booth and Bros., Ltd.
We must not conclude without reference to the extraordinary chassis recently built by French's Motor Engineering Works, Ltd., in which all the wheels are driven and can be steered.
A number of small parcelcars have also made their appearance this year, but with these we cannot deal in detail.•
