Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IN RESPONSE TO Stephen Smith's letter (CM 6 May), we fully agree with his views on the value of Driver CPC training.

Over the past three years, we have trained 7,000 tipper drivers on the SA ILD Aggregates programme, with incredible success and fuel savings.

Our experience in delivering Driver CPC training is that at the start of most courses, our trainers meet with anything ranging from cynicism and scepticism. to enthusiasm. Most, if not all. drivers attend the courses because they have to and rarely in the search for knowledge.

However, except in the case of the most stubborn drivers, we have witnessed a positive transition whereby the drivers admit they have received training that they anticipate will enhance their working lives, and may protect their jobs by increasing their awareness of their responsibilities.

It is high time that training assumed an important place in the transport industry, and we anticipate a lively debate with tipper operators when we ask the question, 'Driver CPC—threat or opportunity?' at the opening conference at this year's Tip-Ex Exhibition in Harrogate.
