Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MI by David Craik

Because of accounting delays following the purchase of Rosier Distribution by Securicor Omega Logistics last month (CM 15-21 April), a former Rosier subcontractor had to appeal to CM to help reclaim nearly £10,000 he said he was owed.

Ian Davies from Manchester had to contact Securicor's accounts department last week on his own initiative to get hold of the money for work he carried out for Rosier more than 60 days before.

"I heard nothing from Securicor," he says. "When [ did speak to them I was told I would be paid, but nobody could tell me when. I think this lack of communication is just not on. I have been left completely high and dry. This could severely affect my business."

After hearing of Davies' plight, CM contacted SecurIcon A spokesperson said the company was "unaware of Davies' problem". However, after further investigation, the company replied in a statement: "The matter has now been resolved. We have made a mistake and Mr Davies will be paid by cheque tonight (14 May). However, the

amount does not total Davies' claims of £10,000. A purchase of a company by another can lead to isolated difficulties in payment delays such as this. However, we stress this is a one-off case."

Davies, who heard of Securicor's purchase of Rosier only through the pages of CM, is appealing to owners of companies to let their subcontractors know of such purchases when they can.

"We are entitled to know," he says. "Our futures could be on the line in many of these instances."
