• P&O Stena is to extend the charter of a "superferry" to help meet increased demand for its DoverZeebrugge service.

The company has signed an agreement to continue running the Stena Royal, a vessel which has been operating on the route for the last four months.

The ship, which will be re-named P&OSL Aquitaine, will continue on the freight-only Dover-Zeebrugge route alongside two other freighters. P&O

Stena Line carried 289,000 freight units in the first quarter of 1999.

Russ Peters, managing director of P&O Stena Line, says : "The freight market grew by 16% last year, and we have continued to see volumes increase."
