• A band of 32 protesting residents have succeeded in having restrictions placed on SW Pegg (Haulage)'s licence after petitioning the Traffic Commissioner.

He was also considering taking disciplinary action for a number of drivers hours convictions.

The Henhurst Hill company had applied to West Midland Traffic Commissioner John Mervyn Pugh for renewal with an increase in authorisation from 14 vehicles and 14 trailers to 15 vehicles and 20 trailers.

Though granting the increase, Pugh renewed the licence for two years instead of the usual five. He also imposed conditions that not more than 12 vehicles be kept at the firm's base at any one time, banning lorries entering and leaving before 05:00hrs and after 20:00 hrs.

A petition protesting about the proposed in crease in authorisation viias signed by 32 residents of Hopley Road and I Ienhurst Hill.

Bridget Wetton of Henhurst Hill said that lorries could not enter and leave via Hopley Road without traffic having to back up. She complained about spray from steam cleaning equipment ruining washing and gardens, about diesel fumes, dust and high noise levels.

She said it was impossible to have windows open at night because of lorries leaving early in the morning and claimed the company had shown a complete lack of consideration.

Director Derek Cadd said the noise complained about was not from his company's vehicles, adding that the way that the roads were, he could not guarantee lorries could be back by a specific time. "Transport is a funny job," he said. "We work to our customers' requirements.'

But Wetton replied: "You are getting all the profit and we are getting all the hassle."

Mervyn Pugh issued a "serious warning".
