TURN-ROUND of ships laden with 1 animal feeding stuffs at. Avonmouth was delayed because of a lack of road transport, the Western Licensing Authority was told last week. Mr. P. R. Jones, transport manager of British Oil and Cake Mills, Ltd., supported an application by Rice Bros. (Avonmouth), Ltd., to run an extra vehicle under an A licence within 100 miles. The application was granted.

Mr. Jones said that his company had increased their business. Tonnage handled had risen from 5,000 a week in 1945 to 12,000, and was expected to increase to 15,000 Mr. J. Huntley, for the objectors, British Road Services, British Railways and Western Transport, Ltd., said that some of the Rice vehicles were not fully used.

DUAL-PURPOSE ADDITIVE

AS reported last week, United Lubricants, Ltd., have produced DoubleDuty Carburol, which combines the functions of an upper-cylinder lubricant with that of an additive for sump, gear

box and back axle. For the latter purpose it is added in the proportion of 25 per cent., when it is claimed to increase oiliness, add to the film strength and reduce oil drag. In addition, it is an oxidation inhibitor.

It is obtainable from garages at-Id. a shot or 2s, 6d. per pint.

OBITUARY

WE regret to announce the death of MR. JOHN REDMOND. Mr. Redmond spent all his working life in the transport industry, and in the early twenties joined Garlick, Burroughs and Edwards, Ltd. Later he wag for many years Birmingham manager of Northern Motor Utilities, Ltd. After that concern was acquired by the British Transport Commission, he held appointments as group manager and district traffic superintendent in British Road Services,
