• Kent company Majestic International Freight Forwarding (MIFF) has called in the police to investigate claims that another firm is trading under its name and using its company registration number to gain credit.

MIFF is a £5m-turnover business which specialises in freight forwarding to and from the Continent. It has received several phone phone calls over the past month from companies alleging that a firm called Majestic International Europe owes them money. They say the company registration number they have been quoted corresponds with the number given by Companies House to MIFF.

Records held at Companies House in Cardiff show that in 1995 a firm of general mer

chants changed its name from Attendequal to Majestic International Europe. The registered office address was in Strood near Rochester—little more than an hour's drive from MIFF's office in Dover.

According to Companies House, Majestic International Europe will be dissolved next month because it has failed to file accounts with the Registrar of Companies. Creditors say its phone has been disconnected and its premises—outbuildings on farmland—appear to be abandoned.

The records show that one of the named directors, Daniel John Roberts, was also the director of a dissolved firm called Business Research Group and is currently the director of companies registered as Cartridge Collections, Opportunity Europe and, most recently, Container Club.

The Majestic International Europe file also lists as co-directors a Michael Detwiler Snr and a Michael Detwiler kir who gave their addresses as Jerusalem and Colorado respectively.

MIFF managing director Steve Oxenham says he would ask for a court injunction if he could only track down those responsible.

"I could dismiss it as coincidental," he said, "if it weren't for the fact that this firm has been quoting our company registration number. It's damned irritating, especially since we have worked hard to build our reputation."
